Starting a few years back with LEGO NES, and 2600 sets, there have been a few more LEGO consoles released since then. Whether you’re looking for a LEGO Game Boy or a LEGO Arcade Machine there’s always been an option. And it seems like Nintendo, Atari, and Sega aren’t the only ones getting in on the fun, as Sony has recently announced that they’ll be joining the blocky console wars as well with their latest physical release; the LEGO PlayStation.
Put into a a blocky build with 1,911 pieces, this $179.99 LEGO set comes with all of the features you could want from a LEGO console and more. From Memory Card Slots, and Controller ports to an opening disc drive. Though, just like some real PlayStation consoles, you shouldn’t plan to put any discs in it. Instead what you’re getting are two small mockups of popular PlayStation games reincarnated in brick form. Whether that’s going to be Gran Turismo on one side, or Ape Escape on the other, you’re basically seeing an entire detailed world within your fake console.
If you’re looking to pick up a LEGO PlayStation, complete with a blocky no-stick controller, you can grab one from the LEGO Website directly on pre-order. At the time we’re looking at an October 4th release date, so you can plan on waiting around a month for it to show up. For those of you that have already started your LEGO Console collection, this should be an easy add-on if you’re looking for something new to put together this holiday season. For me, I might just wait and see if we can get some other cool add-ons for when you buy it like the older Sega Genesis controller LEGO set.
