Donut Dodo is coming to N64 and Dreamcast. Developer Sebastian Kostka, the one-person operation behind Pixel Games SARL-S, announced that the N64 version is done and the Dreamcast port is up next. Both versions are targeting a “soon-ish” release on itch.io and physical versions to follow via Kickstarter.
Kostka rebuilt Donut Dodo from scratch using a custom engine specifically designed to make retro ports easier, ditching the original Godot framework in favor of total control over what platforms the game can target. The new builds add a marathon mode called Endless Delights, offline achievements, a perfect run bonus, and an enhanced attract mode with fresh music from original composer Sean Bialo. Physical N64 cartridges are expensive to produce, so Kostka is gauging demand through Kickstarter before committing to a production run.
Donut Dodo is described as “what if a long lost arcade game from 1983 resurfaced today, it would be Donut Dodo – a classic platformer from the golden era, tough as nails and challenging for the whole family! Ready to top the high score table?”
The game already exists on Steam, GOG, Switch, Evercade, Atari VCS, iiRcade, and exA-Arcadia, so adding N64 and Dreamcast to that roster seems less about reaching new audiences and more about proving the custom engine works. Kostka has hinted at bringing other titles to retro platforms and potentially adding Mega Drive support down the line, which suggests this is the start of a broader retro porting strategy rather than a one-off stunt.
