AYANEO has officially launched the Pocket ACE via Indiegogo.
As with many of their previous releases, AYANEO is selling the first batch of Pocket ACE consoles directly through their Indiegogo page. This allows backers to secure their units as exclusive rewards for specific pledges. By using Indiegogo, AYANEO continues its tradition of connecting directly with its community while offering early access to their latest handhelds.
When the Pocket ACE was originally announced a few short months ago, it was initially shrouded in mystery. The company brandished it as the first retro-focused handheld they have released, despite a decent majority of their devices having some inspiration drawn from retro consoles of the past. For instance, two of their more recent devices, the Pocket DMG and Pocket Micro Classic, both draw inspiration from the original Game Boy and Game Boy Micro, respectively.
The device features a 4.5-inch 1620×1080 screen with a perfect 3:2 aspect ratio for GBA titles. While the aspect ratio is perfect for GBA, the resolution allows for high but not perfect integer scaling. On its screen, gamers can expect a max 6.75x scaling on titles from the Game Boy Advance library.
Stubbs Shows Off AYANEO Pocket ACE In Exclusive First Look
Over on the Retro Handhelds YouTube channel, Stubbs got a first look at the device. Notably, the screen is the same as the one found in the oft-forgotten KTR1, but is also said to be featured in the upcoming Powkiddy RGB50 and rumored GKD Little. At launch, with its resolution and aspect ratio being standout features, it runs in contrast to other GBA-centric heavy hitters like the RG34XX offering 3x integer scaling and a nearly identical form to the original GBA, and AYANEO’s own Pocket Micro and Pocket Micro Classic, which offer 4x integer scaling.
AYANEO has a strong reputation for crafting premium devices with build quality that sets them apart from the competition. The Pocket ACE seems to continue that tradition, while introducing a few subtle differences that distinguish it from the company’s other handhelds.
As the release of the AYANEO Pocket ACE draws closer, Retro Handhelds will be your go-to source for the latest updates.
