There have been a lot of ports for the various Legend of Zelda games over the years. Enough that we even have a round up of them. From the original game all the way through Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess, we’ve seen a lot of different games hit PC and Android ports, but this time there’s something for the Thor users out there. And if it’s A Link to the Past you’re looking for, you’re in for even more of a treat.

Originally based on the Zelda3 project from snesrev and Waterdish, user samyost1 has taken the work done before them and expanded it into something even more awesome. Their dual screen port of A Link to the Past utilizes the same instructions from Waterdish’s original Android port of the game. This means you’re using PyDroid and snesrev’s zelda3 source code, and mixing it in with your legally obtained copy of Zelda 3 to end up with the zelda3_assets.dat file needed to run this dual screen port of a classic. If you need more detail towards the instructions, it’s right at the bottom of Samyost’s github page.
Once that’s done, there’s nothing else you need to do in terms of setup, the game should act just like a DS or 3DS classic and toss all of your extra content right on the bottom screen for you to use while playing the game. According to the Github page itself, the bottom screen will include information such as:
- A Live World Map
- A Dungeon Map with Visited Rooms
- A Touch Screen Inventory With Tap to Equip
- A Triforce When it Has Nothing Specific to Display
As always it’s awesome to see the work the community is putting into classic games like this, especially when they’re building off of already awesome community works. If you have an AYN Thor, I highly recommend giving this one a try. Nothing like breathing new life into old games. At least that’s what I think this community is all about.
