Square Enix is turning your backlog into loot, tying previous saves to in-game bonuses for the upcoming action RPG The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales. It’s a neat little nod to long-time fans, and a subtle way to make sure you’ve at least dabbled in their other games.

This summer’s Elliot shifts the usual HD-2D formula from turn-based to action combat with a time-travel hook, but the real hook for returning players is in your storage. If you’ve got save data on the same account (or just purchase history on Steam), you’ll unlock special sword-focused “magicite” based on which titles you’ve touched. Octopath Traveler 0 nets “Guidance of the Sacred Flame,” buffing sword damage against low-HP enemies by 10%, while the Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake unlocks “Critical Hit,” a flat 6% boost to your sword crit rate.

It keeps going from there: Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster grants “Brave,” another 10% damage increase at the cost of slightly higher shield stamina usage when guarding. Various Daylife chips in with “Expeditionary Wisdom” to shave 10% off sword charge times, and Triangle Strategy offers “Counter Stance,” which boosts sword damage by 10% as long as your shield stamina stays at or above 90%. Nothing is game-breaking, but stack those up, and you’re clearly getting a smoother early game if you’ve been loyal to the HD-2D experiment.

You can find the full breakdown and how-to-claim details on Square Enix’s site, but the gist is simple: keep your saves, get rewarded. Elliot is slated to land later this year on PC, PlayStation 5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X|S, which should make it pretty easy to bring that Square account history along for the ride.
