Update: SpaghettiKart Comes to PortMaster
Well that didn’t take long at all. Just a few hours after we published this, SpaghettiKart landed on PortMaster.
The PortMaster listing does say that it’s a “prerelease version of the port, and there are likely to be some rough edges.” But the fact that it’s already available just a few days after the initial desktop release is pretty incredible.
It’s no secret that we’re big fans of game ports such as Ship of Harkinian and 2Ship2Harkinian. However, Harbour Masters has been hard at work, as SpaghettiKart is the latest port to be made available.
The first two ports I mentioned are for TLOZ: Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask, respectively. In late 2024, Starship was released, giving us a PC port of Star Fox 64. And now, SpaghettiKart is here for those who have been wanting a PC port of Mario Kart 64.
Despite its release, Harbour Masters warns that SpaghettiKart is still in development, so you might run into a few pesky bugs here and there. However, I spent a few minutes testing it on my desktop with a 49-inch monitor, and didn’t encounter any game-breaking bugs.
The only issue that I saw were the other characters randomly disappearing and reappearing throughout a race. It was absolutely incredible seeing Mario Kart 64 take full advantage of my monitor. Plus, after diving into the Settings menu, I even enabled the 240Hz refresh rate to match the Samsung Odyssey G9 OLED.
Getting SpaghettiKart up and running isn’t all that much different from the other HarbourMasters ports out there. You’ll need to download SpaghettiKart from the GitHub Releases page, then grab your Mario Kart 64 ROM and make sure it’s in the .z64 format.
Unzip the SpaghettiKart folder, run the app and generate the O2R using your ROM. That will take a minute or two, but once it’s done, you’ll be taken right into Mario Kart 64 on your device of choice.
I expected this to work well with traditional Windows computers and handhelds. However, the next test is to see how well it performs when installed and setup through Winlator on an Android handheld. Fingers crossed that it’ll be just as good.
