In the past I have written about whether licensed games are good (here and here), but what about TV sitcoms? Are there any good TV sitcom video games? I decided to look into the subject and didn’t find too many, but I did get a wide variety of genres.

Home Improvement: Power Tool Pursuit (SNES)

Tim Tool Man Taylor

Tim Allen Fighting Dinosaurs with a Nail Gun

You take control of Tim the Tool Man Taylor himself in this interesting SNES game. You are on your hit show, Tool Time, and about to introduce a new line of power tools by Binford. However, they are missing and there is a note that says you must traverse the different sets to recover the tools.

It’s not the craziest plot, but traversing these sets is an adventure. You will get different tool upgrades to battle dinosaurs, mummies, robots, and more! Apparently, this game had a fake manual that just read, “Real Men Don’t Need Instructions”. Is this one fun or worth it? It is okay. It is a ridiculous concept that may be worth firing up to try if you are bored.

Fraiser Fantasy (Game Boy Color)

Fraiser Fantasy

Fraiser Fantasy

Have you ever wanted a Fraiser RPG? Here it is! This is an awesome fan-made game for the Game Boy Color. You are playing as Frasier and want to throw the ultimate dinner party, but there are many obstacles in your way. If you are a Fraiser fan, this is a must-play short game.

The game has turn-based combat, stealth, mini-games, and so many references to the show. I don’t want to spoil too much of the game as it is only about a 40-minute experience, but I had a blast with it. You can get the game over at the Itch.io page here.

Starsky and Hutch (PS2)

Starsky and Hutch

Chasing Down an Enemy

Starsky and Hutch was a show about 2 detectives and their Gran Torino fighting crime. The video game is very much the same and has a focus on vehicular combat. There are three seasons and each one contains several episodes of various missions like chasing bad guys, escorting cars, and ensuring your viewership is high!

This game is pretty interesting as it can be played multiplayer with one person driving the car and the other one controlling the shooting. I didn’t get to test this out, but you could connect a steering wheel and a light gun to this game to make it an even more immersive experience. Without that, it was just an okay game.

Hannah Montana (NDS)

Remember Hannah Montana? The teenage high school student who was living a double life as a pop star? There are a ton of Hannah Montana games out there, but I chose the one just called Hannah Montana for the Nintendo DS.

You play as Miley as she walks around talking to characters to solve some simple puzzles. While you are doing this, the repetitive sound of music from the show is blaring in the background. The game is not difficult, but it is also not great. This could have easily been a flash game on Disney Channel’s website back in the day instead. Skip this one if you are not a middle school or elementary student who loves the show.

Friends: The One With All the Trivia (PS2)

Clips from the Show

Clips from the Show

Do you know a lot about the television series Friends, but your friends never invite you to trivia night at the local brewery? Do you also have a device that can emulate PS2? Well, Friends: The One With All the Trivia may just be the game for you.

This game is… well it is just trivia. There isn’t much to it. There are trivia questions about Friends and there are clips from the show included. That is about all there is to say about this one. If that sounds like your kind of game, then maybe this one is for you.

So are TV sitcom games good? Not the ones I found. Maybe I missed one that is awesome and you should let me know in the comments. Frasier was good, but that was a short fanmade game.
