Retroid has shared more information about what to expect from the launches of the Flip 2 and the unnamed second device teased on Valentine’s Day.

The current Retroid Pocket 5 is a huge upgrade over the previous year’s Retroid Pocket 4 line. The plastic used for the face of the device has been upgraded to a glass panel fit with a 5.5-inch OLED screen. The Snapdragon 865 found inside gives gamers enough processing power to get decent performance while emulating a few lighter Switch games.

Community Poll Results vs. Possible Reality

In our article sharing a community-built wishlist looking to ask what features were the most important to see in an eventual Retroid Pocket Flip 2, the community answered pretty decisively.

The poll results show that the community expects Retroid to follow a similar engineering process to the first Flip: take that year’s flagship, and make it a clamshell. Over 80% of voters wanted to see the Snapdragon 865 used in the device, nearly 70% want an option with 8GB of RAM with 256GB of on-board storage, over 50% aspire for an OLED screen, and nearly half of all voters want it to have a 16:9 screen.

The company has yet to announce the official specs for the otherwise unannounced Retroid Pocket Flip 2, but they have shared when and where we can expect to get more information.

When to Expect More

Over on Retroid’s official Discord, screenshots of chat logs were shared showcasing the company’s plans leading up to the sale of the Flip 2. The images show that gamers can expect Retroid will be delivering more news on both handhelds on February 19th, followed by pre-orders for the Flip 2 opening in March.

The logs also point out a bit of confirmation that the device seen in the background is, in fact, not a clamshell device, but Retroid returning to a form we haven’t seen since the original Retroid Pocket in 2020: a vertical. Many gamers, myself included, falsely identified the lower outline of the screen in the second handheld as potentially being a hinge. Now, there’s some semblance of confirmation that the shadow shown earlier by Retroid is indeed a vertical handheld.

As it stands now, we don’t fully know what the Flip 2 or unnamed vertical will have internally. Judging by past hardware choices Retroid has made, and at least confirmation that the community expects minor alterations to the body of the RP5 to make it a clamshell, it could be possible that the new handheld will be exactly what everyone is hoping for.

UPDATE: Retroid Drops a New Video

Retroid has released a promo video showing off some of the device’s prominent features. Of note, it is confirmed to have an OLED screen and a reinforced hinge, but check the video out below to get the full scoop of what’s coming.
