GAMEMT has officially released its new E6 Max via AliExpress.
We initially covered the device earlier this year when its product page went live over on the GAMEMT official website. The new Max version of the GAMEMT E6 goes beyond the Plus in design and performance, albeit only by a slight margin.
The original GAMEMT E6 Plus was initially an eye-catcher for its overall build, echoing the design of some more powerful PC handhelds like the ROG Ally or Steam Deck. However, upon release, dreams were shattered when the actual quality of the device was called into question.

The E6 Max doubles the RAM found in the Plus from 2GB to 4GB and changes the processor from the common RK3566 to a chipset we rarely see utilized in retro handhelds, the Allwinner A527. Between the two processors, the differences are marginal and gamers can realistically expect a small compatibility boost in titles from the N64 and PS1.
Retro handhelds live in a space where the more options typically mean the more accessible the hobby is to any onlookers. GAMEMT taking a crack at making a large base handheld with lower-end specs with the Plus opened an avenue for newcomers to explore how they’d best like to play the games they remember from their past.
However small this upgrade may appear when looking at it on paper, the company is clearly trying to improve the device to some degree. With its form factor, it could be a standout for those looking for a budget option that can play classic retro titles on a handheld that mimics the ergonomics of higher-end devices.
It remains to be seen what the device will truly be like once in hand, but once we get our hands on one, you can expect a review shortly thereafter.
