The Retroid Pocket Flip 2 and Classic pre-orders have finally gone live. The two systems offer different play styles over the previous Retroid Pocket 5 and Retroid Pocket Mini.

The Flip 2 launch originally started when Retroid had announced a sequel to the Flip, alongside a mystery silhouette of a handheld. That device was later revealed to be the Retroid Pocket Classic.

Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 is the SoC in the Retroid Pocket Classic

Earlier today, Qualcomm unveiled its new gaming platform and announced that Retroid will be one of the first companies to utilize the new chips with their devices. The Retroid Pocket Classic will feature the Snapdragon G1 Gen 2. Reports show that the G2 CPU is 80% more performant than the first-generation G1.

Initially, Retroid claimed that the processor found in the Classic would be comparable to the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, but slightly overclocked. The reported capabilities of the G1 Gen 2 however show that it may be one of the most capable budget chipsets for dedicated handhelds. The additional GPU and sustained performance overall would benefit emulation for consoles past the N64, where the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 would struggle.

Screens, Screens, Screens

The Flip 2 uses the same internals as the Retroid Pocket 5. The only difference in the device, as far as we can tell, is the clamshell form and the control scheme placing both analog sticks on top. Outside of that, Retroid is also offering a version of the Flip 2 with a Dimensity 1100 (the same processor as the RP4 Pro) for $30 less.
