Retroid is generating hype once again with a series of cryptic tweets hinting at a possible dual-screen handheld. With references to “two heads” and “two scoops,” the brand is clearly playing with the idea of duality, likely a nod toward a DS-inspired clamshell device.
While it’s still unclear whether the teased device will actually be a dual-screen handheld, it’s hard to imagine what else the company might be hinting at that would fit the “duality” theme it seems to be leaning into. As much as we’d love to see a dual-screen handheld from Retroid, it’s also possible this is more about positioning two upcoming devices.

These handhelds could arrive with similar specs but tailored for different segments of the retro handheld community. We’ve seen shades of this approach before, like with the Retroid Pocket 5 and Pocket Mini, where the former focused on a 16:9 aspect ratio and the latter initially aimed at 4:3.
The timing is notable as Retroid has been steadily refining its lineup, releasing five handhelds in just the past nine months.
Retroid is Back at It
The three tweets continue a seemingly well-maintained marketing campaign that Retroid has executed with a few of their past consoles. For instance, the Flip 2 was originally a rumored device that was somewhat crowd-sourced by the community, and the Retroid Pocket Classic was simply a mystery silhouette until its initial showcase. Retroid has yet to show off much of the rumored device, whatever it may be, but judging from past announcements, it could be revealed in the coming weeks.

In September, the company launched the Retroid Pocket 5, a horizontal Android-based device aimed at performance-conscious users. Alongside it came the Retroid Pocket Mini, a handheld initially positioned towards 4:3 console emulation. Both were praised for their strong emulation capabilities and sleek use of OLED panels.
However, not all of Retroid’s recent moves have been smooth. Shortly after its launch, the Retroid Pocket Mini received mixed feedback due to significant screen quality issues, largely due to the company proclaiming the screen featured was a 4:3 screen with a 1280 x 960 resolution, when it actually housed the same 1240 x 1080 screen found in the Retroid Pocket Classic.
After some slight back and forth between the community and the company, Retroid released the Retroid Pocket Mini V2, which features the original display, attempting to address early criticisms and restore confidence in the product line.
Dual Screen?
Against this backdrop, a dual-screen handheld would mark a bold pivot. It could cater specifically to fans of the Nintendo DS and 3DS eras, offering a more accurate emulation experience through native dual displays. If priced competitively, something Retroid is known for, it could fill a niche between affordable Android handhelds and more expensive Windows-based dual-screen options like the AYANEO Flip DS and the recently announced ONEXSUGAR.

Whether these teasers materialize into actual hardware remains to be seen, but the buzz is growing. With a history of iterating quickly and listening to feedback, Retroid is well-positioned to surprise the retro gaming community once again — possibly with its most ambitious device yet.
