Razer has announced a remote play feature for PC gaming to complement the company’s Kishi Ultra mobile controller, as well as a new docking station for your handhelds. Gamers will be able to use the Razer Nexus App on iOS or Android to stream PC content directly to their phone/tablet/handheld.
PC Streaming
It appears as though the Razer team have built this additional streaming functionality by forking Moonlight, the AMD PC streaming option that many of us in the handheld space already know and love. Users that may not have already been familiar with PC streaming may find a new use for the Kishi that they bought for PS5 or Xbox games.
Razer promises streaming users a “fully optimized” experience streamed to their device, and automatically catered to the device’s max resolution and refresh rate.
Unlike other streaming services that lock your gameplay to fixed aspect ratios, Razer PC Remote Play allows you to take full advantage of your device’s powerful display. By automatically adjusting to its maximum resolution and refresh rate, you’ll be able to enjoy the sharpest, smoothest visuals no matter where you game.
A New Deck Dock
The Handheld Dock Chroma features an light bar up front (of course), 100W passthrough, additional USB, and gigabit Ethernet. The device is designed similar to many of the third party Steam Deck docks with a USB connection cord attaching to the top of the device. It will work with the Switch, but the console will have to rest upside down in the dock. It’ll be up to users to decide how they feel about that.
The dock seems to fancy itself a travel companion. It’s adjustable design makes it double as a display stand as well as a monitor dock.
Razer have their fans and detractors, but the RGB happy accessories king can usually be depended on in the realm of quality. $79.99 might be on the low end for a Razer accessory, but we will have to see if it delivers an experience above what handheld enthusiasts already own at half the cost. Time shall tell.
Pre-orders for the Handheld Dock Chroma start tomorrow 1/7.
