PlayStation 5 emulation is moving faster than you might think, whether Sony wants their games on PC or not. KytyPS5, a free and open-source PS5 translation layer for Windows and Linux built on a heavily modified version of PS4 emulator Kyty, has been pushing several big-budget PS5 titles toward playability in testing being shown off constantly on YouTube, and fresh automated builds have been landing on GitHub almost daily, including one today.
The headline numbers come from footage GAMER NO 1 captured on a high-end PC with an Intel i5 14600K and an RTX 5070: Demon’s Souls runs at an almost playable speed, and Astro Bot sits in the same 40 FPS range. SAROS, Housemarque’s PS5 exclusive, booted in-game at low frame rates, while Marvel’s Wolverine reached 40 FPS in cutscenes but dropped to 10 to 15 FPS in gameplay. None of these games were fully playable, and these were best-case results on top-tier hardware, but performance is improving rapidly.
The project’s own screenshot gallery shows Cyberpunk 2077, MLB The Show 23, and more running in the emulator. macOS support is experimental, built for x86-64 and running on Apple Silicon under Rosetta 2 with Vulkan provided by MoltenVK. KytyPS5 is not the only PS5 emulator making moves, either: SharpEmu is an up and coming experimental emulator written from scratch in C#, though early results are not progressing as rapidly. .
With Sony no longer porting their first-party games to PC, the community has continued to build other avenues for playing these titles from the PS4 emulator that “gave us hope” to PS5 remote play on Steam Deck, but native PS5 games brushing 60 FPS on PC hardware this soon is something else entirely.
