Sony is reportedly preparing an OLED refresh of the PlayStation Portal for release later this year, at least according to hardware leaker KeplerL2 posting on NeoGAF forums. The update would replace the current model’s LCD screen with an OLED panel.

The timing makes sense given the Portal‘s commercial performance. The device has achieved a 7% attach rate to PS5 hardware in the U.S., translating to over two million units sold domestically alone by early 2026. It topped U.S. accessory sales in 2024 despite initial skepticism about a $200 remote-play-only device. Sony vice president Hiromi Wakai confirmed earlier that demand exceeded the company’s expectations.

An OLED screen would address one of the original Portal’s few technical limitations while capitalizing on momentum from the device’s first year. KeplerL2 has a strong track record with hardware leaks, particularly regarding AMD-based gaming systems, though Sony hasn’t officially confirmed the OLED model.

Sony Portal Leak

KeplerL2’s posts also touched on Sony’s separate native handheld project, expected in 2027 and codenamed “Canis”. That device would feature AMD’s RDNA 5 GPU architecture with 16 compute units, Zen 6 CPU cores, and backward compatibility with PS5 and PS4 games. However, the leaker notes AMD’s plan to reserve RDNA 5 for premium APUs means the 2027 handheld will likely use RDNA 3.5 instead, with RDNA 5 reserved for a later iteration.

As with all unconfirmed reports, this should be taken with a grain of salt until Sony makes an official announcement. That said, KeplerL2 has established credibility with previous AMD hardware leaks, particularly regarding gaming APU specifications, so maybe it’s okay to get a little bit excited.
