OneXSugar, the company behind such oddities as the transforming dual-screen Sugar1, has released a video on BiliBili for an upcoming handheld called the OneXSugar Wallet. In keeping with their unique handheld portfolio, the Wallet is a foldable, single-screen clamshell device. Yes, you read that correctly.
OneXSugar Wallet: What We Know
At this time, we only really know any details about the screen for the OneXSugar Wallet:
Screen: 8.01″ OLED, 2480 X1860 at a 4:3 aspect ratio when fully opened
It’s a single-screen display that folds, unlike devices like the Microsoft Surface Duo that consist of two independent screens. This provides a large 4:3 display that can then fold into a more portable form factor. We’ve got standard unmarked face buttons and D-Pad, and it looks like we’ve got four additional buttons around the bottom screen, along with two analog sticks that stick out slightly above the screen.

OneXSugar Wallet Open
This one looks to be pretty wide, so it’s hard to determine how viable it would be for DS or 3DS, so those of you excited at the prospect of seamless-screen DS gaming may want to pump the brakes a bit.
The Concern
I love that OneXSugar is taking some risks and designing handhelds that stray from the normal glass-front candy bar or Game Boy designs that we see day after day. However, I’m both excited for and terrified of this design choice. A foldable screen introduces a potentially large point of failure for the device, and given OneXSugar’s pricing on their previous devices, this is likely to be a pretty expensive device with a rather large foldable screen.

OneXSugar Wallet Open Clamshell
Luckily, the design of the clamshell appears to be more inset into the device, as opposed to your standard phone offerings that leave a gap along the edge where the two screens meet. This should hopefully mitigate more common issues like dirt and grit getting into the screen crease, but with the OneXSugar Wallet obviously aiming itself at being a more pocketable device, this is still something to consider.
What’s Next?

OneXSugar Wallet Size
No release, pricing, or additional specification details have been released as of this article. All we know is that OneXSugar is coming out with a clamshell device with a single, foldable screen. As we learn further details, we will be sure to keep everyone updated.
Is anybody else potentially excited by the OneXSugar Wallet?

I mean, if everything went right, this could be awesome for PS2 and Gamecube… but then again, it will probably be way too expensive to warrant that.
And that is if everything went right, which probably won’t be the case.
honestly it would be a cool gimic but it would probobly ruin a lot of games for systems like ds and and maybe gameboy. also it will, knowing this brand, be way too much money for a gimic handheld that may or may not work and reilisticly even if it did work is that realy going to be your retrogaming go to?
“Ruin games like ds or gameboy” so resizing screens or having bezels at all “ruin” games? I emulate lots of games on my fold 5, I havent seen a game Ruined yet… almost every handheld on the markets screen is 4:3, and an insane numbe4 of older titles are specifically in 4:3. I’ve never seen anyone look at a 4:3 screen and go “man that RUINS gameboy games”.
it would tho the aspect scale is incorrect for the ds and would cause screen streaching. thats why normaly to use a console like i have such as a wii you have to either have a smart tv or use upscallers just to fir the scale of a bigger tv. these games were not meant for that aspect ratio
Can just use a real DS or even a 3DS instead
i know but in that case why buy this at all?
No specs ?
Im assuming they’re using older Samsung panels. Probbaly fold 3, so youre going to be looking at around $1,200 for this imo
I own the OneXSugar Sugar1, and the total price plus import tax and shipping was around 800 euros. Still, the device works perfectly, so I can imagine what they will make out of this one. Ether again the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or the Elite, and 16GB minimum for sure.
This looks like what happens if you tell an AI to design a handheld based off of those flip-smart phones but then tell it to add in buttons lol. I do appreciate that they aren’t afraid to be weird and to try new stuff, but I really don’t know who’s asking for this either. It’s just novelty for novelty’s sake, rather than finding a form factor that fills a niche that people want.
I mean it may or may not work.. probobly not but either way is anyone realy going to spend a ton of money to buy this?
It’s a very early 2000s inspired design
Biggest mystery is the name.
