By many accounts, the Miyoo Flip hasn’t been quite as successful as Miyoo had hoped. That isn’t stopping the company from trying new things, as pictures recently surfaced of a retro handheld that’s even smaller.

We’re affectionately calling it the Miyoo Mini Flip, and for good reason, as it’s even smaller than the Miyoo Mini when closed. According to the Miyoo Mini Stock Alert Bot on Telegram, the Mini Flip “has the same hardware as the Miyoo Mini V4, so it will be compatible with Onion, and it will also have Wi-Fi like the Miyoo Mini Plus.”

Those are some big shoes to fill if Miyoo is attempting to piggyback on the success of the Mini and Mini Plus. Especially considering that some over on the RH Discord pointed out that the Onion team hasn’t heard anything about this supposed handheld.

On the flip side, if the internals and screen are identical, it wouldn’t be that far-fetched to think that Onion would work out of the box. The only issue would be that the current official version of Onion wouldn’t recognize when the lid is closed. To that point, either Miyoo would need to get Onion on board or figure out a way to solve that problem itself.

The bigger question is whether Miyoo has learned from the mistakes of the current Flip by ensuring that the hinge won’t break. That, plus random microSD card slot issues and subpar software, have left a bad taste in the mouths of those who jumped on the Flip’s hype train.

From the pictures we see, the Mini Flip looks practically identical to its larger brethren. The only, and unsurprising, difference is that the smaller version gets rid of joysticks. As a result, we end up with something akin to the FunKey SP, but with the power of the Miyoo Mini V4.

Rest assured, we’ll be keeping a close eye on this one, but I wouldn’t expect to see it any time soon.
