Last Summer, MagicX was embroiled in a rather spicy controversy, as the XU Mini M was found to not be powered by the processor that was advertised. Originally, many flocked to snag the Mini M as it was said to be powered by the RK3562, making it the first retro handheld to do so. As it turns out, XU Mini M is actually powered by the RK3326, which continues to make its rounds in the scene.

MagicX Mini Zero 28 Render - 5

After months of working with the community to gauge design a new handheld, the MagicX Mini Zero 28 is almost here. This is the first MagicX handheld to be released since the Mini M debacle, and on paper, there’s quite a bit to be excited about.

For one, the Zero 28 retains much of what we liked about the Mini M, coming in a horizontal form factor that should be quite pocketable. It features a 2.8-inch IPS display with a 640 x 480 resolution, which matches up with the same screen found on the previous MagicX handheld.

What makes this particularly exciting is that MagicX claims the Mini Zero 28 will be powered by the Allwinner A133P and is paired with 2GB of RAM. This might sound familiar to some, as it’s the same chip found in the TrimUI Brick and TrimUI Smart Pro.

However, the major difference here is that instead of running Linux, MagicX is spicing things up by relying on Android. More specifically, Android 10. The official spec sheet also says that the Mini Zero 28 is using something called “Dawn Launcher,” but we aren’t exactly sure what to expect there.

Besides that, the Mini Zero 28 supports microSD card expansion up to 512GB, while also being equipped with Stero Speakers. As for battery life, the Mini Zero 28 includes a 2,900mAh battery, which is said to provide up to nine hours of juice on a single charge.

There’s a good chance that you’ve made it this far and are wondering how much and when. Well, as it turns out, MagicX is coming in rather aggressively (in a good way), with pricing starting at $55. This is right around what you’ll pay for the TrimUI Brick over at AliExpress, without any coupon codes or deals.

Lastly, you’ll be able to order the Mini Zero 28 for yourself starting tomorrow, January 18, using the link below. MagicX is also doing things a bit differently, as it won’t immediately be released on AliExpress.

Instead, hit the button below and you’ll need to head over to the official MagicX website to order it. There are plans to bring it to AliExpress, however, that won’t be happening until sometime after the Chinese New Year, which is on January 29.

At the time of this writing, you still can’t order the Mini Zero 28 just yet, but you can register an email to be notified when the store goes live. Or, just bookmark the link and keep hitting F5 until we have liftoff.
