MagicX started as a quaint newcomer to the game, hitting the scene with a couple of cute micro-handhelds and, more recently, the first DS-focused emulation handheld to hit the scene, the MagicX Zero40. Since then, they’ve been on a streak, releasing details for a couple of new models, including the Touch One 35 and Retro 45, as well as starting a sister company of some sort with XU Retro.

A couple of weeks ago, XURetro announced a truly wild amount of handhelds for a new company to promise, and, not to be outdone, MagicX have just one-upped them by announcing three more handhelds on their official Discord, and seemingly leaking over a half-dozen more on their website.

For 2026, MagicX shared details and renders for the Retro DS, the Two45 (more on this in a minute) and the Two48.  The Retro DS is, naturally, a dual-screen device with a 4.1-inch 1280×720 top display and a 3.4-inch 960×720 bottom display. It also appears to be rocking LED-ringed stereo speakers, which might be very ugly, but are undeniably unique. The Two48 rocks a 4.8-inch, 1440×1080 display and a more traditional form factor. The Retro DS sports a Dimensity 7050, while the Two48 is a rocking a Dimensity 7350.

The Two45 was detailed to have a vertical 4.5-inch, 1080×1260 display, which would have been perfect for TATE games, and would have retained the same design language as the Zero40. It was also detailed to have a Dimensity 7350, like the Two48. However, based on “extensive user discussion and feedback” the Two45 has been completely redesigned. It will retain the same chipset, but will now feature a new design with a more ergonomic grip, active cooling and a massive 7000mAh battery, alleging 7-8 hours of playtime. The chipset should be able to comfortably run most 3DS games at 3x, according to MagicX.

MagicX also announced two mysterious “Whirl” devices, which some in the community believe to be designed around rotating displays. The Whirl V45 sports the Dimensity 7050 and presumably a 4.5-inch display, while the Whirl V48 has the Dimensity 7350 inside and, we’d assume, a 4.8-inch display. But wait, there’s more! If you mosey on over to MagicX’s website, there are also renders and placeholder pages for an astonishing SEVEN additional devices. These renders (shown below) should be taken with many grains of salt, as they include no details, and unlike the Retro45 (also shown below) they haven’t even been officially acknowledged by MagicX. It is entirely possible that these device pages were not meant to be public-facing, but as of now, they are!

If all this seems a bit overwhelming, try organizing these details from scattershot discord comments and half-baked renders with no context! If I had to guess, most of these unannounced devices won’t see the light of day.

I applaud a company that is not only willing to try new things, but also transparently updating designs based on community feedback. I, for one, am most excited to see their entry into the newly crowded world of clamshells. Let us know in the comments if any of these devices stand out to you, and stay tuned for the inevitable updates to trickle in.
