Continuing Nintendo’s steady stream of releases for the Switch 2 exclusive GameCube app, we now have a pretty spooky release date for a Luigi’s Mansion and IT’S OCTOBER 30 BOO! Have you recovered since that body-shaking and nearly life-threatening jump scare? I bet that one will take a while. Anyways, Luigi’s Mansion takes us back to the launch of the Nintendo GameCube itself in 2001 as both an infamous and beloved launch title for simply not being Mario, but also being… well…Luigi’s Mansion.

Mario is missing, and Luigi won a mansion in a competition he didn’t enter. What can possibly go right? You play as our favorite green Mario as he explores a large and interconnected haunted mansion in a strangely Resident-Evil-meets-Ghostbusters esque way with keys, maps, and plenty of backtracking. And yes, there are ghosts, and yes, you suck them up in a vacuum. Absolute cinema. The game is only 5 hours or so to beat, and you have a score at the end, reflected by how much money you have collected. Sure, it’s releasing a day before Halloween. BUT. You can easily work through it with your family in literally 2 sittings. Just do it, unlock a core memory.

Luigi’s Mansion will bring the total games on the GameCube NSO app to 6, with many more already announced. Here is a list of current and future offerings:

Out Now:

  • The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
  • F-ZERO: GX
  • Soul Caliber 2
  • Super Mario Strikers
  • Chibo Robo! Plug Into Adventure!

  • Luigi’s Mansion
  • Super Mario Sunshine
  • Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
  • PokĆ©mon CD: Gale of Darkness
  • PokĆ©mon Colosseum
Luigi music

Oh and there’s more music added to the Nintendo Music App. Yay!?

I am not particularly a fan of Nintendo’s GameCube NSO app as it still exhibits the same issues since launch: frequent frame drops, input and sound latency, that STUPID grey dotted border, and the inability to hide the bottom menu bar. While we… ahem… have other means of playing these titles, this is still a good enough and accessible way to play these titles for most people, so I’m all for it. Let’s look forward to Luigi’s Mansion, out October 30th!

Luigi peace
