Lenovo are back with a new iteration of their Switch-style handheld PC; the Legion Go 2. Debuting as a Windows handheld back in October of last year, the Legion Go 2 will see something of a relaunch in June of 2026. This is when the company will open preorders on a SteamOS version of the handheld.
The original Legion Go was a serious piece of hardware, with some cool design choices that helped it stand out from the PC pack. The device no only has detachable controllers a la the Nintendo Switch, but if you turned one of those bulky joy-cons on its side, it became an FPS mouse, not dissimilar to mouse feature now seen on the Nintendo Switch 2.
At the time of its release, the Legion Go 2 was the most powerful (and expensive) handheld PC on the market. Featuring cutting edge performance from the AMD Z2 chip, and sporting a VRR OLED screen, the Legion Go 2 stands in a league of its own.
This new revision of the Legion Go 2 will be sporting the same specs as the version already on the market, but will ship with SteamOS loaded as stock on the handheld. The shift over to the “it just works” nature of SteamOS on the device could appeal to users who may have been iffy on installing over or dual-booting the default Windows 11 experience. The Linux derived OS also runs a lot leaner and meaner than the bulk of Windows, which often means gaming performance increases across the board.
Anyone paying attention to the state of PC hardware prices of the moment probably knows that any hope for a break on price in the 10 months between device releases is likely gone. If anything, potential buyers should probably take comfort that Lenovo is holding the price at $1,199.99, at least, for now. This was always a hyper-premium flagship device, and the price reflects that level of performance. Whether it’ll still be worth the asking price 6 months from now remains to be seen.
With the surprise release of the Xbox Full Screen Experience (FSE) popping up on Legion Go 2’s via an optional December update, it’s going to be up to the consumer whether they really need a Steam specific version of the console. With a scene that moves this quickly, it’s often just fun to sit back and watch how it all plays out. It’s not like I’ll be able to afford this thing anyway…

Yeah it’s real. Has been confirmed on IGN & Notebook Check.
Still waiting to hear if this $1199 asking price is for a Z2E or just Z2 variant.
