Legendary (and generally expensive) building toy company LEGO has unveiled another building set themed after a retro handheld console…but wallets rejoice! It’s only $20. Dubiously named the Retro Gaming Console #31380, this 268-piece set is releasing as part of LEGO’s 3-in-1 Creator Series.
It comes in the form of a familiar-ish handheld that looks closer to a generic Anbernic device than something like the Game Boy DMG released earlier this year (perhaps they’ve had some… inspiration?), as well as a miniature arcade cabinet and a miniature PC setup.

This thing is adorable and small enough in scope that your child spending their Santa bucks (or an adult spending their children’s bucks) can build it with ease. Now, what does this building set do? Glad you asked: absolutely nothing. Maybe we can see a build-out similar to what Natalie on X accomplished with the LEGO Game Boy DMG, but time will tell.
It’s also interesting to see LEGO releasing more gaming-focused sets, even if this one doesn’t come as part of a licensing deal or partnership. There’s already a non-branded Arcade Machine LEGO set comprised of 468 pieces and comes with a retail price of about $40. With the Gaming Handheld coming soon, we can’t help but wonder what else might be in the works.
Could this be a potential stocking stuffer? Well…No. It’s releasing 1/1/2026. But it might be a fun New Year’s activity while you’re on your well-deserved holiday. Or you are a glutton for anything handheld related, and you greedily buy this for yourself, shunning your children from the entire process. Whatever your reasoning, we won’t judge (Santa will, though). But yeah, you can enjoy the Retro Gaming Console #31380 on January 1, 2026, for $20.
