UPDATE 01/07/25 – Per an update over at GamingOnLinux, there is NO official collaboration between Valve and GPD at this time. We will continue updating this story as more information becomes available.

As listed in an update on the official device website, the upcoming GPD Win 4 (2025 edition) will be the latest device to offer native support for SteamOS. The collaboration with Valve will coincide with an upcoming 2025 hardware refresh for the Win 4.

The handheld was already a looker, sure to attract attention with its familiar PSP/Vita styling and slick slide-out screen with hidden keyboard. The ability to boot directly into Valve’s incredible achievement in Linux gaming might just be the push they need to get it out and in the hands of gamers.

So far, the WIN 4 is the smallest AMD APU handheld in the world, but its processor is powerful, far surpassing the custom APU of the Steam Deck. The WIN 4 inherits the sliding design and physical buttons of the WIN 3, and it supports Windows 10/11 and SteamOS (with system adaptation provided by Valve).

Whether GPD will offer the device shipped with the SteamOS installed over Windows remains a mystery, but per specs comparisons on the GPD site, it looks as though both the Win 4 AI 9 HX 370 and Win 4 8840U can be expected to be officially supported.

The GPD Win 4 was already a bit of a niche device, with pricing configurations run between $800-$1,200 depending on your desired specs. Whether official OS support from Valve will make the purchase price easier to swallow will be up to the market, but if CES news so far has been anything to go by, they will have plenty of competition coming.
