It is time for my favorite part of the year…October! With all the spooky themes of the season, it is fun to always see what GotX games will arrive with it! Will we have some equally scary retro games? Let’s find out!

Occult October was the theme voted for by our Champions Lounge. The games that were nominated had to require the occult, from witches to black magic and everything in between! If you want to know more about our GotX program and how to participate, check out my article about that here!

If you can’t get enough of Zelda this month after playing Echoes of Wisdom, then GotX is the place for you! This month we had Zelda winning our first category because of the antagonist’s use of dark magic. It is also one of the most highly regarded games on the SNES.

Koudelka

Console: PS1

Release: 1999

Genre: RPG

HLTB: 12 hours

Koudelka Gameplay

Koudelka is a less-known horror turn-based RPG from the PS1 era. It is the predecessor of the Shadow Hearts series that was more popular on the PS2.

You will be playing as the main character, Koudelka. She is a witch exploring a monastery searching for clues and battling monsters. This game also does a great job incorporating survival horror as well.

Fatal Frame

Console: PS2

Release: 2001

Genre: Horror

HLTB: 8 hours

Your brother, Mafuyu has gone missing. Being his sister, Miku, you must go find him. One problem, you need to search the horror-filled Himuro Mansion. The mansion is filled with vengeful spirits.

Fatal Frame is legitimately one of the most terrifying games I have played not just on PS2, but on most systems. As you traverse this mansion with angry ghosts going after you, you have to battle them with a camera. So be prepared to face your fears and have to snap photos of the angry spirits.

Breath of Fire II

Console: SNES, GBA

Release: 1994

Genre: JRPG

HLTB: 36 hours

Ryu is back for another JRPG adventure! Well kind of, our protagonist shares the name and likeness of the Ryu from the first game, but apparently they are different. One day Ryu finds everyone in his village has disappeared. He is part of the dragon clan and can transform into a dragon to battle.

This is a great classic JRPG from the SNES days. That being said, the game can feel a bit grindy and also have a ton of random encounters. Luckily there are improvement patches out there that can make the experience even better!

Those are our games this month, so drop by and join us in our Discord as we enjoy another great month of GotM. Which games are you excited to play? Also, we are excited to announce we have teamed up with EmuDeck! Make sure to check them out here.
