Retro Handhelds

GameS of the month

One of the best parts about owning a new retro handheld is diving into the process of setting it up with an endless array of games. It’s when my favorite game, aptly named “Choice Paralysis” kicks in. Fortunately, RH has an incredible program called GotX, led by its intrepid leader Rapid99. It’s our community book club equivalent…for video games!

GAMES OF THE MONTH: WHAT IS IT?

Essentially, Games of the Month, or GotX, offers a way to play your way through games that you might not have ever thought of. In addition to the themed monthly games, Games of the Month has expanded to include “Role Playing Game of the Quarter”, or RPGotQ, and Game of the Week, also known as, Retro Bits. Hit the button below to learn more about how you can join in on the fun!

Current Games of the Month

Pre ’96: Final Fantasy III / Final Fantasy VI

1996 – 2001: Spider-Man

2002 and later: Sword of Mana

Essentially, GOTM Champions who are eligible to nominate do so by providing a “Wish List”, or a list of three games for each range of release dates. Another user would then select one game from the list of three to nominate themselves, essentially acting as Santa and granting the initial user an item from their wish list. Once a theme is selected, active members of the RH Discord nominate and then vote on which three games are selected – each GotM is from a separate time period based on the initial release date. This month, the three games selected are Final Fantasy III/Final Fantasy VI, Spider-Man, and Sword of Mana.
