A brand-new beta for Console Launcher has been released, bringing new features and improvements, including early support for dual-display devices, like the upcoming AYN Thor, AYANEO Pocket DS, and whatever the hell Retroid has been up to.

The update also adds a secondary display info screen that integrates with RetroAchievements, allowing players to track their progress without cluttering their main view. In videos posted to Console Launcher’s Discord, the launcher is shown with the new Grid Menu on the lower screen and a larger, per-game visual on the upper screen.

Speaking of the Grid Menu, the new Grid Menu is resolution adaptive, which means the menu now resizes itself to adapt to various screen sizes and supports re-ordering with bumper buttons. Visuals got some other upgrades as well, with a new auto-focus feature in folders and the app drawer, as well as adjustments to other UI modes (including even more tweaks for secondary displays).

Under the hood, there are numerous fixes, including fixing the “Not a Supported Browser” message with the Google Image Search feature, general fixes for storage error handling, and RetroAchievement load times in the user profile.

This major beta update readies Console Launcher for the next wave of handhelds with forward-thinking dual-screen support and a redesigned UI. It also comes at a rather opportune time, as we know there’s another dual-screen launcher being developed and will hopefully arrive sooner rather than later.

Eager users can grab the beta from the Console Launcher GitHub page now before the official update arrives on the Play Store later this year.
