Anbernic has released a video showcasing the upcoming RG476H, which looks to compete with the Pocket Ace and AYANEO’s upcoming Pocket AIR Mini. The RG476H is a familiar-looking retro handheld that combines a new, premium design language with powerful hardware, following on from this year’s well-received RG477M.
The star of the show is a 4.7-inch BOE custom LTPS IPS screen, with a fan-favorite 4:3 aspect ratio and a 1280×960 resolution. The display has a 120Hz refresh rate, perfect for Black Frame Insertion (BFI), and an impressive 1200:1 contrast ratio with a peak brightness of 500 nits.
The RG476H is rumored to feature the Unisoc T820, which has impressive GameCube performance, and based on the video, decent PlayStation 2 performance too. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Chinese handheld showcase video without titles like Genshin Impact and Wuthering Waves, which the chipset seems to run with ease. Anbernic is also doubling down on its integrated AI to support real-time translations and online game walkthroughs, though the execution on those ideas so far have been less than ideal.
The RG476H supports external video up to 1080p resolution, as well as support for Bluetooth peripherals like controllers. Like other T820 devices, they also demonstrated its dual screen capabilities, making the device a nice complement to Retroid’s recently released second display.
Anbernic may have aped their competition’s aesthetic nearly wholesale, but there is no denying that the device is attractive, and based on this showcase, it has muscle, too. Price hasn’t been announced yet, but we’re hopeful this will come in under the devices its competing with.
Looks aren’t everything, and the T820 is no match for the modern generation of Snapdragon processors, so Anbernic is going to have to meet consumers in the middle if they want to compete.
