Anbernic has announced its next handheld, the RG476H.

Over the past year plus, Anbernic has been steadily releasing consoles. Throughout all of 2024, the company released at least one console per month. In 2025, things slowed down, but the company still managed to release multiple handhelds throughout the year. The RG Slide, RG34XXSP, RG477M, and the RG557 were all released this year alone.

Quick Video, Sleek Handheld

The train is not stopping there, however. It looks like Anbernic is gearing up to release yet another handheld, as shown in the video below.

While the video may be short and only offer a slight glimpse of the upcoming console and no other specs or formal announcements, we can try to deduce what we’re viewing.

It seems the base design of the Retroid Pocket 5 and Mini has become somewhat of a trend in recent months. The Odin 2 Portal, Odin 3, and now the RG476H all bear designs that highlight the black glass with matte cutouts for buttons with small system buttons nearby.

This console features stacked triggers, and the screen seems to be 4:3 following the same aspect ratio as most of Anbernic handhelds in the past. if anything, this new handheld looks to be a RG406H, but with a larger screen and added differences in design in order to distinguish itself as different from the rest of the pack.

RG476H Stacked Triggers

The base design of the handheld does, however, look to be the most premium offering Anbernic has offered. The RG477M and other M devices are premium by way of using metal casings, but the overall look of this handheld looks more premium and sleek in comparison to other common mainstays of the company like the RG35XX SP or even the newly released RG Slide.

Expectations…

The 6 in 476H would connote that the device is using a 6th “generation” chip as opposed to the 7th generation one found in the RG557 and RG477M. Although, using a 6th generation chip on a device that is primarily targeting 4:3 retro consoles isn’t a bad idea at all. There are stronger chips, surely, but the use cases for the Unisoc T820 still exists and venture far into the realms of GameCube and PS2 emulation.

In an odd twist of fate, one that may be entirely unintentional, this device will house the same aspect ratio and resolution but a larger screen size than the original Retroid Pocket Mini. Or, more aptly, what we believed to be the original RP Mini. If the 4.7 inch screen used in this device is the same as the one found in the 477M, it will be a 1280 x 960 resolution and at 4:3.

The only thing missing would be OLED. The glass screen design and build of the handheld do, however, take multiple cues from Retroid to the degree where this device may be Anbernic’s direct response to customers who were initially looking for a 4:3 960p handheld when purchasing the original Mini.

Consider me interested. The RG476H looks like it may be fine-tuned for the community as a response to a controversial decision one of their biggest competitors made. In that, it proves that competition benefits the end user. That is, if my assumptions are right, this handheld may be the one people were looking for when the Mini was first announced.
