For the past few months, we’ve heard rumblings about a potential release of the Anbernic RG406P. It all started after a patent filing was discovered, revealing the design and RG406P naming scheme. It appears that Anbernic is pivoting a bit, as the RG406P is now expected to arrive as the Anbernic RG406H.
An image appeared yesterday, supposedly showing off what the RG406H looks like. That was quickly debunked, as eagle-eyed members of the RH Discord surmised that someone simply Photoshopped the RG CubeXX to give it a wider design.
Shortly after, another image appeared, showing off what the inside of the RG406H looks like. And if you can manage to zoom in really close to the right side, the markings confirm that the board is for an RG406H.
Today, we have yet another leak, but this time it’s supposedly an image of the RG406H completely assembled from the front. The array of controls isn’t all that surprising, as it seems that Anbernic will be using Switch sticks paired with a D-pad similar to the one found on the RG CubeXX and RG Cube. From there, we have your standard front buttons for Start, Select, Menu, and Function.
Arguably even more exciting than the fact that the RG406H is real, is that the latest image shows that Anbernic is experimenting with transparent shells. It’s tough to tell for sure in the picture, but this sure looks like Transparent Purple. Given the lackluster color options of the RG CubeXX, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the RG406H will have more fun colors to choose from.
Those worried that Anbernic is releasing yet another H700 handheld might want to take a deep breath. Provided that the naming convention doesn’t change, this should end up as an “H” variant of the RG406V. That means it’ll be powered by the Unisoc T820, along with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage. For now, all we can do is wait and see what might get leaked next.
