Anbernic is trying to add to their success of the RG35XXSP by taking a peek at the Miyoo Mini Flip. Mine showed up, and I was excited because I knew nothing about it. After spending a week with it, here are my thoughts. Check out our first impressions here, our written review, and our videos below!

The Look and Feel

This thing is thin and fits in the pocket really well! I heard some people complaining about the “forehead” of the device, and I didn’t notice anything from pictures, but in person, yeah, it is a bit obnoxious. I got the black model, and it has a nice matte plastic that does not show fingerprints, at least for me.

The buttons feel great, and thankfully, they are not as loud as the original Anbernic SP. With the D-pad, it is the usual great quality you can expect from Anbernic. The hinge feels great as well. The screen looks great, but almost a bit saturated. If you like deep colors, you will love this.

The analog sticks are not for me. I know some people may like them, but they just feel very awkward to use, and I don’t see myself utilizing them at all. The device is almost just a little too small for my hands, or maybe I am holding the device awkwardly, but I noticed it was really uncomfortable and cramped for me to use.

I didn’t really push this device too much because it just doesn’t seem like the right form factor. It is capable of, but the sweet spot of this device is GBA. It looks fantastic on this screen and feels right with it being in the SP form factor. The chip is still the H700 that we have had an abundance of and is more capable than just GBA, but that was my use case for the week.

I used this throughout the week to play that new MarioMon game that everyone has been talking about. It was a really good time to be able to just throw it in my pocket and pull it out when I had a little bit of time. I did have one issue where my down direction on the dpad stopped working. I couldn’t even use the analog sticks, and when I did try that, it would scroll like crazy. It was fixed after a reset, but worth noting still

The stock firmware for Anbernic is getting better, but it is still not ideal. Once you add a CFW with this, I think it will be a great user experience. It is always great to utilize the screen closing to sleep capabilities of the device.

Final Thoughts

Work wasn’t busy this week, so it was nice to use this during breaks and lunch. My daughter has been learning to walk, too, so it has been crazy watching that, and being able to just shut the device when I need to run across the room has been very helpful, too.

The price for this device is hard to beat. If you want a smaller clamshell device that you can toss in a bag or pocket to play some GBA games, this device is perfect for you! For me, I prefer the quieter buttons over the original. The cramped feeling for me does kind of ruin it for my personal use, but again, this could be my hand size and how I am holding it.
