Anbernic appears to be readying two new colors of the RG34XX.
Earlier this year, at the start of 2025, Anbernic stealthily launched a glacier variant of the RG34XX. Personally, the glacier color way is the defining color of the GBA, so to see such an iconic option appear for the handheld most definitely strikes some nostalgic chords.
Today, it looks like there may be two new colors entering the market, however.
Two New RG34XX Colors
YouTuber Retro Gaming with Deadfred, the same Discord user to supply us with info about M20 Pro, has shown off two new pre-development images of the RG34XX’s next two colors. One is a translucent pink color reminiscent of the fuchsia colorway released in April 2001.
The other is a clear blue color that doesn’t seem particularly based off of any known official GBA releases. It does give a slightly similar impression as the dark blue translucent option of the RG35XX SP, but with a greener base undertones.
Much like the glacier RG34XX before it, there is no real indicator or announcement of these colors coming, and it’s entirely possible that we may see the new colors magically appear on Anbernic’s official RG34XX listing randomly one day soon.
Anbernic’s History with New Colors
With two new colors potentially on the way, Anbernic could be aiming to solidify the RG34XX as their “flagship” device. While they have more powerful handheld options, we rarely see the company give a single device so much attention and tease new releases post-launch.
However, the SP saw a similar release schedule, and it could be argued that the SP and the current 34XX share the spotlight as the two devices that currently define the Anbernic brand. In September 2024, Anbernic released three new colors for the SP: translucent red, translucent green, and clear.
Those same new SP colors came with changes to the SP’s build. Things like the battery, heat dissipation, and the buttons were all slightly altered to address some complaints users had with the device when it originally launched.
New colors for the RG34XX could signal similar changes, but thus far, the only problem widely reported on the 34XX has been cases of false diagonals. Some gamers have taken to using thin pieces of tape to add a small bit of height directly to the contacts on the motherboard. Anbernic could see these mods and enact a change in how the device is built to address the problem.
Going forward, Anbernic may begin to challenge and supplement nostalgia with new releases. If the rumored RG34XX SP is true, and the wave of consoles inspired by DS manages to become a trend, the future of the brand may be nestled in being able to recapture the memories handheld classics have made over the past few decades.
