Analogue has finally shown off the Analogue 3D. For months, the company has remained silent on any new details, news, or console-specific announcements, but earlier today, they silently updated their public press kit to include a brief video of the console in action.
The console itself, however, has been delayed numerous times over the past year despite constant calls for info from the community. Recently, 8BitDo, which shares its CMO as CEO of Analogue, began shipping its modernized N64 controller to customers.
Delays are Synonymous with Analogue
Throughout its history, Analogue has made itself somewhat synonymous with delays and a lack of communication. Every console released since the Pocket has been delayed at least once, and the company typically announces those delays during the supposed launch windows. For example, it wasn’t until the middle of August that Analogue announced that the 3D (then said to release in August) would not be hitting doorsteps until Q4 2025.
The 3D has been one of Analogue’s most popular launches since its announcement partially due to a share of its existence by one of the greatest athletes of all time, LeBron James. This popularity has made all of the subsequent delays and news have a longer shelf life than when the consoles were simply being delivered to people who needed their sleek retro console remake itch scratched. Now, video and images have been shared by Analogue in their newly released press kit for the console.
It’s Alive
The new press kit contains a 30-second clip (below) that shows someone picking up 1080 Snowboarding for the N64, putting it into an Analogue 3D, and at least watching the main menu intro to the game.
Outside of that, the press kit is largely filled with the same style of images posted before. Either on the Analogue website or its store page, the press kit images appear to be the same ones but with more area in the background and more details visible. The photos, however, do look to actually show the 3D in real life and not renders. The photos emphasize more of the design of the unit as opposed to any of its known features.
Most of the announced features are software-related or, at the very least, rely on hardware to produce a difference in software. For example, 4K output relies on HDMI, which then changes the way the games appear on monitors or TV sets. Seeing the console boot and launch a game here at least gives us a slight peek into how Analogue plans on showcasing 4K visuals through its console.
While Analogue continues to build on its 3D, gamers are continuously eager to get their hands on the device. As an FPGA device that is fine-tuned for N64 games, it remains in a class of its own. That is, until ModRetro gets its M64 out to the public.
