It is 9:30 pm Eastern time. I JUST sat down to sip some tea when my inbox was pinged with a single image, a price, a preorder date, and now a slightly empty wallet. Our good friends at Lego and our “better friends” at Nintendo teamed up to release another banger in their line of buildable vintage consoles, this time with the original Game Boy DMG!

LEGO Game Boy Assembled and On Stand - Nintendo

I have to say…this one is particularly attractive and is a near 1:1 in size with the original, making it a nice addition to your desk at work that will leave co-workers going, “Wow, is that a Game Boy?” and “Wow, is that made out of Lego?!” as well as “Wow, is this what you do instead of actually getting work done?!?”. Luckily, you won’t have to wait that long for this nostalgia wave to hit.

What Comes in the Box?

This 1:1 model consists of 421 parts and can build you a Game Boy DMG with a stand and 2 insertable cartridges, stylized similar to Link’s Awakening and Super Mario Land (also with accompanying display stand). You also choose between three gameplay shots to add to the front of the “console” to show Zelda, Mario, or the ‘Nintendo’ boot screen.

Easy enough, but apparently this set is rated for ages 18+, which is 1 year higher than the minimum required to play Grand Theft Auto VI. Move over, kids, this one is for us. While smaller in scope, the price is notably smaller in comparison to the previously released NES offering, but is also expensive in its own right. Because this will set you back $60 + taxes and shipping.

How Do You Buy it?

Building the LEGO Game Boy - Nintendo

Me on October 1st, probably

The “Console” launches October 1st for $59.99 (about the price of a used real DMG and Mario Land on eBay) and preorders are live NOW. You can find it at the usual suspects, see below:

Does this set interest you? Or is it a dud? And most importantly, did Tech Dweeb already preorder it? I guess we will all see when it launches in October. I bought it, and it will look very nice on my desk at work, so that everyone will see how cool I am. That’ll show them.
