Just as we thought things were starting to level out in the handheld space, AYN’s latest announcement put a damper on things. In addition to announcing that the latest pre-order batches are now live for the AYN Thor and Odin 3, we’ve also learned that another price increase is on the way.

The announcement again comes via the AYN Discord, with the full message reading as follows:

Hey everyone! The 7th pre-order batch for Thor and 8th pre-order batch for Odin 3 are now live and available starting today! We also wanted to give everyone an early heads-up that we’re planning a price increase for both Thor and Odin 3 later this month. The new pricing will take effect once the current inventory allocation is sold through, so if you’ve been thinking about picking one up, now would be a great time to place your order. A few quick notes:

✅This new pre-order batch will continue to use UFS 3.1 storage.

📦Orders from this batch are expected to begin shipping in August.

As always, thank you all for the amazing support and enthusiasm. We can’t wait to get these devices into your hands!

It’s just downright disappointing at this point to see yet another price increase for two handhelds that have been on the market for at least six months. Not only that, but even with higher prices, the upcoming batches will still rely on UFS 3.1 storage, instead of the UFS 4.0 storage that both the Thor and Odin 3 launched with.

Nevertheless, this announcement basically serves as a “warning” for those who have been on the fence about grabbing either of these handhelds. There’s no way to tell when AYN will sell through “its current inventory allocation,” so now’s the time to snag one before the prices increase again. Thankfully, the AliExpress Summer Sale is ongoing, knocking the base model Odin 3 down to $294 (w/ code 58RHHSS) and the Thor starts at $292 (w/ code SSUS45).
