Hyper Mega Tech just announced the Rare Edition Super Pocket, a special handheld packed with one of the N64’s all‑time great collectathons plus a curated slab of Rare history. The Rare Edition is built on the same Super Pocket hardware Hyper Mega Tech has been shipping for Capcom, Taito, Atari, and NEOGEO, complete with that Evercade cartridge slot on top. Out of the box, though, it’s all about Banjo‑Kazooie and a set of baked‑in Rare titles, including Conker’s Pocket Tales and other 8‑ and 16‑bit‑era picks.
There are 14 games total on the unit, with Banjo‑Kazooie headlining as the lone 64‑bit entry (and if I’m not mistaken, the first N64 entry to land on one of Blaze’s cartridges). Check out the full list below:
- Atic Atac
- Banjo Kazooie
- Battletoads in Battlemaniacs
- Battletoads
- Cobra Triangle
- Conker’s Pocket Tales
- Gunfright
- Jetpac
- Knight Lore
- Lunar Jetman
- R.C. Pro-Am II
- Slalom
- Snake Rattle’N’Roll
- Solar Jetman
Visually, the Rare Edition leans into the studio’s identity, with a special shell design and branding that stands apart from the other colorways and earlier limited runs like the translucent TAITO and Capcom variants or the woodgrain Atari editions. Hyper Mega Tech has already proven it knows how to make these feel collectible; previous limited Super Pockets were capped in the low thousands and sold through specific partners like Funstock, so don’t expect this thing to linger at retail forever.
The interesting thing here is what Banjo‑Kazooie on a Super Pocket implies for the franchise. Rare’s stuff has been tiptoeing back into circulation via collaborations and anniversary merch, and now you’ve got an officially licensed handheld with Banjo front and center. Between that and ongoing chatter about Rare collections and N64‑era revivals, you can practically hear people already speculating about where else this ROM might show up next.
For now, though, the Rare Edition is exactly what it looks like: a tribute to one of the most beloved 3D platformers ever made, bundled with a highlight reel of its developer’s back catalog, and wrapped in a limited‑run shell specifically designed to turn heads.
