An Android‑native Xbox emulator just dropped on GitHub, and it’s from exactly the kind of chaos agent you’d expect: izzy2lost, the dev behind PSX2 and those infamous decompiled Android N64 ports. This new project is a mobile fork of xemu aimed at playing legally obtained backups of Xbox games on modern Android hardware, with the usual warning label attached: it’s early, it’s heavy, and it is hungry for resources.

Right now, it’s very much a “devs and degenerates only” build. You’re grabbing an unsigned APK from GitHub, sourcing your own BIOS and HDD images, and accepting that a lot of stuff will not work at first. That being said, the foundation matters more than the first impressions. And Xemu on desktop has already proven Xbox emulation isn’t a pipe dream; getting that tech onto Android with a focused fork is the next logical step.

Iggy’s work has been invaluable to the retro handheld community. PSX2 is one of the only PS2 emulators in active development on Android, and izzy’s N64 work (Perfect Dark, Spaghetti Kart, etc) cemented his rep as someone who thrives on weird projects (see also: the only Sega Model 3 emulator I know of).

While it is too early to tell what the community reaction will be, it is almost certainly going to be a loud one. An actively developed Android Xbox emulator could finally give Snapdragon-based devices something genuinely new to chug on instead of just rerunning PS2 and GameCube benchmarks, and tinkering with Steam games via GameHub. On the other hand, everyone remembers how long it took Xbox emulation on PC to crawl towards a playable state, and that was with desktop‑class hardware and a dedicated dev team.

If you’re curious and itching to finally play the legendary Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2X, this is absolutely one to watch.
