The muOS development team recently announced it’s “latest, and likely final, chapter in the Goose releases” and the Golden Goose (build number 2508.3) represents the culmination of a large effort to clean up several bugs and improve overall usability, in preparation for Jacaranda, the upcoming iteration of muOS due for release early next year.
The announcement details many changes and updates, including a carousel theme option for the Main Menu and Content Explorer sections, and two new view modes (grid and carousel) for the History Section.
For power users, the most exciting addition will be the new Modular Hot Key Builder, which allows you to create complex shortcuts and macros using sequence modes and executable actions. Additionally, more hot key configurations have been included in General Settings for the ability to capture screen shots and swap the D-pad direction.
There are also hardware related and localization enhancements. Wi-Fi dongle support has returned to many devices, while application languages may now be set independently of the system language. Moreover, Polish was added to the list of pre-installed languages. Dzień dobry!
In addition to these larger changes, Golden Goose includes a bunch of bug fixes, including fixes for glyph problems in apps loaded from SD2, a fix for the save state flushing issue in RetroArch after going into a sleep mode, and corrected display of volume and brightness bars for the default theme.
The devs, as usual, emphasize that all users should back-up their data prior to installing this update. The update packages are compatible with the 2508.1 Canada Goose and 2508.2 Silly Goose versions, and can be downloaded via the Archive Manager. A full image of the OS is available for users who would rather reflash their device, like the olden days.
