There were rumblings that it was going to happen sooner rather than later, but ASUS announced two new handhelds. No, neither of them is the Ally 2, but the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Ally X were officially unveiled during the Xbox Games Showcase.
You might remember both of these handhelds leaked a little while back, after they passed through the FCC, revealing both a White and Black version. There were definitely a few mixed reactions, simply based on the way that the grips are styled. It turns out those leaked images were real, and we’ll have a dedicated Xbox button in between the left joystick and shortcut buttons.
At the time of this writing, not much was revealed in terms of specs, price, or availability. So far, all we know is that the ROG Xbox Ally X will be powered by the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme, and will come with 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. Meanwhile, the ROG Xbox Ally comes with the AMD Ryzen Z2A, which we have yet to hear about but apparently isn’t the same as the Z2 Go found in the Legion Go S. Along with that, the Xbox Ally comes with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.
As for availability, all that was shared was that these handhelds will launch “Holiday 2025.” Hopefully, that means we’ll get them before Black Friday, and considering the FCC leak plus timing of the announcement, I’d be willing to bet that’s the case.
When it comes to pricing, no details were shared, but we are expecting both models to be priced a bit higher than normal. Many handhelds have seen price increases due to the tariff situation, with Nintendo notably opting to increase prices of games and accessories as opposed to the Switch 2 itself.
We’ll update this post as more details become available.
