Just as the weekly Retro Handhelds Podcast was kicking off, AYN dropped a massive surprise as the company announced the Odin 2 Portal handheld. This one came out of left field, as things have been pretty quiet in the AYN camp ever since the Odin 2 Mini was announced.

Not much else is known about the Odin 2 Portal since all we have is the Indiegogo link and the YouTube video you see above.

AYN Odin 2 Portal: What We Know

So far, we know that the Odin 2 Portal sports a 7-inch 1080p OLED touchscreen display complete with a 120Hz refresh rate. AYN also shared that it will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, but stopped short of revealing exactly what CPU is at the helm.

When looking at the video and teaser images, we can see that the Odin 2 Portal offers stacked shoulder buttons, along with the same ABXY layout from the Odin 2 and Odin 2 Mini. There are a total of four shortcut buttons on the front, along with Power and Volume on the top, and then macro buttons on the back. In terms of controls, AYN confirmed the Odin Portal also includes Hall Effect joysticks with RGB lighting, which shouldn’t really come as much of a surprise.

Besides that, there’s a USB-C port on the bottom, hopefully making it so the current Odin Dock will work with this new handheld. Also on the bottom is a microSD card slot and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

As the crew from the RH Podcast pointed out, the Odin Portal looks strikingly similar to the Retroid Pocket 5. It starts with the bezel-less display but extends to the use of an all-glass front panel.

Lastly, AYN actually made a small tweak to the name shortly after the announcement. Originally, the Indiegogo page and YouTube video were both titled “Odin Portal,” but it was swiftly changed to “Odin 2 Portal.” It’s also been confirmed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will be at the helm, which doesn’t really come as much of a surprise.

Currently, the Indiegogo page is live, but it’s nothing more than a landing page for you to enter your email to be notified when more information is made available.
