The country riff of sweet royalty-free music starts and you know you are in for a new Anbernic announcement. Last week, we had rumors of a dual-screen handheld, horizontal RG406V, and the RG CubeXX. Today we have something a little different…a controller!

Meet the RG P01

This is the first attempt at a controller for Anbernic, so it’s a bit exciting to see what is in store for this one. This is something new that a lot of these companies have not attempted, so it’ll be nice to watch Anbernic pave the way.

In the video announcement, Anbernic listed some features we can expect. It starts with showing the use of gyro, hall sticks, and “smooth” triggers. The video then explains that smooth triggers are hall triggers. It also will have vibration, ABXY swap, and turbo options for rapid-firing.

There are also microprogramming back buttons. I love using these to program for L3/R3 personally, so that is a great selling point for me. The RG P01 is in the style of an Xbox controller and sort of reminds me of the Ultimate 2C from 8Bitdo. This controller is compatible with PC, Switch, Steam, Android, and iOS.

Finally, we can see the 3 color options at the end. The RG P01 will come in white/purple, black, and purple with skittle buttons. What else is that I see? Of course, it’s the RGB lighting that has been popular recently with Anbernic as of late.

Questions

Anbernic RG P01 Promo Render

With the announcement of the RG P01, there are still some questions we still have. One is what sticks are they using in this? Will it be the ones with cardinal snapping or the new style like in the RG406V? Or perhaps it will be new sticks altogether.

I am also curious about what D-Pad they are using in this. There is no release date or price yet, but we at RH are excited to try it out! Be sure to check back for more information as we learn more. Also, check out our upcoming reviews for the RG P01 when they start arriving.
