Nintendo has been ruthless with their takedowns of Switch Emulation and copy-striking beloved Retro Handheld Youtuber Retro Game Corps. When Nintendo tackled Yuzu, we lost Citra as well. This has been leaving a void in the 3DS emulation scene. Having to rely on old forks of Citra is fine, but having an official app that will be updated with new features is something that is sorely missed.
Lime3DS Officially on the Play Store
Don’t worry about those wild 3DS prices on eBay and trying to navigate which model to get. 3DS emulation is alive and now we can rejoice in playing our legally owned Nintendo ROMs! Lime3DS is here to save the day.
Lime3DS is forked from Citra and is an open-source emulator. It is even promising to bring new features to the 3DS emulation scene as well. Now, it is coming out officially on the Google Play Store. With Android devices getting more and more powerful, it is reassuring to finally have an official emulator on the Play Store that will help us take advantage of them.
With some brief testing in my Anbernic RG Cube, it has run great with the few games I have tried. That device looks great playing some upscaled 3DS favorites. Unlocking more potential in that device that was seen as overkill is a great feeling. (Luckily an XX version is coming soon!)
You can download Lime3DS from the Play Store via the button below. You can also check out the official GitHub page here to read more about the emulator.
Let’s all hope that, as a community, Nintendo can relax and leave Lime3DS alone. What device are you excited to try this on? What games are you going to be trying out first? Let us know in the comments below, and chat with us in our Discord!
