A new month means a new set of games! From multiplayer coop to driving through the eye of the storm, all the way down to your classic little puzzle games. There’s plenty to like this time, and if you’re looking to give something new a go, whether that’s on PC, Handheld, or even through Armada, there’s going to be a number of options to try. So be sure to take a look and see what you like this time around.
Big Walk

Starting off with something you’d call not Halloween themed at all, is a game called Big Walk. Brought to you from Untitled Goose Game Developers House House, and published by everyone’s favorite Playdate schedulers, Panic.
This is the big co-op game of the month, where you can get up to 12 of your totally real and close friends and get lost in a big world. Traverse the mountains, forests, plains, and caves to get where you want to go. Solve puzzles, grab your walkie-talkies, and maybe just enjoy the beach for a little while too.
If you’re looking for something to take the edge off for the night, get your friends and go for a Big Walk. Right now, the big recommendation for this game is straight on PC. No PortMaster, No Armada. Just you, a microphone, and some friends.
The Loopler

Coming up next is a combination of two of the internet’s favorite things. Toy track cars, and Balatro. The Loopler is this month’s roguelite deck builder, and it’s all based around driving your toy car in loops for as fast and as long as you possibly can. The faster you go the more coins you get, and the more flags and levels you can unlock. Be careful because this one can get addictive real quick. If you can get your car running fast enough you’ll eventually find yourself reaching infinity, going in forever. And that’s exactly what you’re after.
If you’re looking to play this on something else, this game is so lightweight you’ll have no issue booting this up into something like GameNative or even on Armada. So give yourself a new addiction and have fun with it.
Super Skelemania

This is going to be a bit of a shorter one in terms of gameplay, but I still think it’s worth a go. Super Skelemania is a self described “single sitting Metroidvania” and it does exactly what you’d expect it to. It’s full platforming all the time, and brings to it a number of fun little actions like using your own skull as a bowling ball.
As a whole, this really isn’t that long of a game, but it is one that I think is worth having in your arsenal, especially this Halloween season. If you’re looking to give it a go, $4.99 on Steam isn’t going to break the bank, and once you have it you can toss it onto Armada, GameNative, or my favorite; the Portmaster release.
It’s a short sweet game from 2017, and it deserves some more love.
Skate Story

Taking things a completely different way, I don’t think I’ve given a skating game recommendation yet, so let’s start with one where you’re a demon that’s made of glass, and likely pain too. It’s an underworld skating game where your goal is to grind hard, skate fast, and deck your board out real nice. I want to point out that this was a recommendation I caught off of a user in the Retro Handhelds Discord named Gotanks, and I think it’s a super solid skater.
If you’re looking for something to drop on your x86 handheld or PC, this gets the go ahead, but I’m not too sure how it’ll perform through GameNative or Armada.
Pacific Drive

Now primarily I’d say I’m a racing game guy. But occasionally I just want to drive something through the woods and only hope I can make it to safety. That’s where a game like Pacific Drive comes into play. It’s an atmospheric first person survival game where it’s you, your car, and the Pacific Northwest all crumbling down around you.
You’ve gotta investigate, fix your car, and survive. This isn’t a game I’d recommend putting on a small screen, so I hope you’ve got your PC or a Steam Machine nearby because this is one for the TV.
At $29.99 it can be a bit of a hard sell, but if you’re looking for something new to try, and you find it on a sale. Pacific Drive is a great game.
Lumines Remastered

There may be a newer version of this game, but that’s not going to stop me from putting out a recommendation for a real classic in the form of Lumines Remastered. Originally a game meant for the PSP, Lumines Remaster is a redo of a classic block falling formula. Drop your blocks to the beat in an attempt to create 2×2 squares of matching colors. There’s great design, great music, and a puzzle dropper that will keep you entertained for hours at a time.
This one is $14.99 on Steam, but if you want to give it a go portably, GameNative, Armada, and even a native Google Play port are available if you wanna give this game a go. I highly recommend this game, though Lumines Arise is even more fun in my opinion.
Carrion

How could we not get into October without a recommendation for Carrion. The second game published by Devolver Digital on this list, Carrion is a reverse horror game where you are the monster. Climb around, stalk your captors, and take back your freedom as you grow into the most terrifying beast anyone could have ever imagined.
The best part of this game is how easy it has been to run. Outside of the usual x86 emulation options, there is a version you can download on the Google Play Store; this is another classic that’s worth giving a go. Well; as classic as you can get with a game released in 2020.
A Little to the Left

And to end off the spooky or colorful recommendations, let’s go with the most terrifying thing of all. Organization. A Little to the Left is my Puzzle recommendation for the month, and it’s about the calmest thing you could play if you’re someone who likes picking up after yourself. Take your mess, toss it in the drawers, but toss it in just right so everything fits.
Something askew? Try again. It’s a quaint little game, and one that I’d really recommend playing with a mouse or a touchscreen if you really want to try it that way. While it’s normally $14.99 I’ve found it quite often for just $5.99 during Steam sales. So if it strikes your fancy, maybe wait a moment to pick it up.
Conclusion
And those are your recommendations for the month. A mix of spooky, quaint, and colorful. I hope there’s been something in this month’s recommendations that’s been worth your time. And if not you can be sure that every month since April I’ve been putting out recommendations that will hopefully give you something, anything, worth playing. And thanks to the endlessly growing Steam Family Library I’m stuck in, I’ll have plenty more recommendations in the near future.
