UPDATE: A2-DS or PGS?

Not long after this article was published, we were informed that this might not actually be the Unicorn A2-DS from ZPG. It turns out that this is the exact design of a handheld from a company called “Portable Solutions,” that was expected to dual-boot between Windows and Android. The kicker here was that the “PGS” was said to be priced at $230.

The initial Kickstarter campaign launched in 2016, raising over $300,000. However, just ten days after the campaign launched, Portable Solutions canceled it, while claiming that the PGS would still be made available. Almost nine years later, the PGS never came to fruition, but apparently, someone managed to get hold of a prototype.

Consider us duped.

The Anbernic RG Slide is only just making its rounds amongst reviewers, and the review embargo doesn’t lift until later this week. But it appears that the RG Slide already has one competitor on the way, as the ZPG Unicorn A2-DS made a surprise appearance on the RH Discord via NITTRX.

Very little is known about the Unicorn A2-DS, besides what we see in the video, and it’s apparently powered by the Dimensity 8400. However, this isn’t just a new handheld with a slider mechanism, but it also features not one, but TWO screens.

By the looks of it, the main screen will probably be somewhere around 5.5″ to 6″, with your usual buttons around the frame. It only appears for a brief moment, but when the A2-DS is opened, a smaller display is wedged between the handheld’s controls. Speaking of which, we have the full array of controls here, complete with dual joysticks, ABXY, D-pad, along with Start and Select buttons.

It’s difficult to tell from this video, but if we had to guess, the smaller screen will probably be around 3 inches. There does seem to be a bezel surrounding the screen itself, which is why we think it won’t be a 3.5-inch display.

Since this is said to be powered by the Dimensity 8400, using Android could introduce a few problems of its own. Android isn’t great at handling dual-screen devices, and while it’s gotten better with newer releases, I’d be shocked if ZPG managed to get Android 15 on here, let alone Android 16.

Nevertheless, this is one that we’ll be keeping a close eye on and hope that more information is made available soon.
