We’ve previously detailed XU Retro’s catchily-named XU20 v32, the first of three devices XU Retro intend to release this year, and after much anticipation you can now order from the first batch of 600 units on XU Retro’s site.
The device aims to be a worthy competitor to the TrimUI Brick, using what seems to be the same display but forgoing Linux-based firmware in favor of Android 10. The XU20 v32 is available in four colors and may just be the perfect pocketable Stardew Valley device.
The budget-friendly device comes in at a competitive price point of only $48.00 (with no SD card) and is expected to start shipping immediately. Additionally, XU Retro has released the firmware for download in advance, for those of you anxious to get your SD card set up in advance (XU Retro also offers pre-configured SD cards, but they will likely be cheap, disposable and filled with junk games. Buyer beware!)

Powering the XU20 v32 is an AllWinner Cortex-A53 A133P processor with a PowerVR GE8300 GPU and 2GB of DDR4 RAM. The device boots Android 10 directly from the SD card, which is pre-configured with the same modified Dawn Launcher we’ve seen on the MagicX XU40.
While it won’t have access to custom firmware at launch, running Android does open the device up to the world of native Android games, which makes this an unprecedented micro-handheld for games like Streets of Rage 4 and Dead Cells. Android also means access to a myriad of emulators that are not available on Linux-based devices in this price range, like PS Vita.
The 3.2-inch IPS screen is shaping up to be the most impressive feature, though. The TrimUI Brick’s screen is the star of the show, and getting that in an even smaller form factor is a huge win. The screen is fully laminated, which means no air gap between the screen and the display like you see on a lot of cheaper handhelds. The XU20 v32’s also boasts Wi-Fi, a vibration motor, stereo speakers, a 3200mAh battery they claim provides 5-7 hours from a single charge.
