It’s been a weird time for the world of Windows handhelds. While some companies are churning out new options all of the time, others will announce a new handheld, only for it to seemingly disappear. That’s what happened with the Zotac Zone, as it was introduced in May 2024 but it was only released in a handful of regions.
Now, it appears that Zotac could announce a new handheld at CES 2025. We’re already expecting to see at least one new handheld from Lenovo, but we won’t be surprised to learn about even more upcoming handhelds. So far, the Legion Go S is the only one that we feel confident will debut at the event, but the floodgates could open if AMD indeed debuts its next series of flagship chips.
Until now, there haven’t been any leaks or rumors about a potential new Zotac gaming handheld, so we aren’t really sure what to expect. Instead, all we have to go off is Zotac’s press release:
Following the successful launch of the ZOTAC GAMING ZONE, ZOTAC GAMING’s first-ever gaming handheld with an AMOLED display, premium controls, and hardware, ZOTAC is back to give media a very early sneak peek on the potential next step of the ZOTAC GAMING ZONE with stronger hardware.
As a reminder, the original Zotac Zone featured a 7-inch AMOLED display, with a 120Hz refresh rate. It’s powered by the AMD Ryzen 7 8840U, paired with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of user-upgradeable storage. There was a lot of hope that this would provide some additional competition for the ROG Ally X and Lenovo Legion Go, but it just wasn’t meant to be.
When trying to dissect what Zotac may offer with its next Windows handheld, we can only surmise that it could end up being powered by the unannounced AMD Ryzen Z2 and Z2 Extreme. Or maybe Zotac could surprise us all and opt for utilizing an Intel chip instead.
