Leave it to Anbernic to drop a teaser for something rather exciting right before the Chinese New Year. This morning, the company announced the RG Vita and RG Vita Pro, two handhelds that are seemingly ready to pick up the mantle left by the now-discontinued Odin 2 Mini.

Specific details about what these two handhelds will feature are obviously scarce. Thanks to one of the lifestyle images in the 35-second video, we at least know that the standard RG Vita will sport a 5,000mAh battery.

Beyond that, anything else is just speculation, likely until after the upcoming holiday. However, some on the RH Discord have been trying to figure out the screen size, even going so far as to use Anbernic’s D-pad to “measure.” Going by that, we’re likely looking at either a 5-inch or 5.5-inch display on the RG Vita and RG Vita Pro.

In terms of power, we unfortunately can’t rely on cropped D-pads to help us figure it out. That being said, since these handhelds are mimicking the PS Vita, it’s probably safe to assume neither will be powered by a RockChip SoC. The community seems to think that the standard RG Vita will sport something like the Unisoc T820, with the RG Vita Pro being powered by the Dimensity 8300.

Even with its age, if Anbernic pairs the T820 with at least 8GB of RAM, that should be plenty of headroom to handle Vita emulation. Meanwhile, the Dimensity 8300 is more than capable of that and quite a bit more.

Anbernic RG Vita and Vita Pro - ABXY

We’ll learn more about the RG Vita and RG Vita Pro soon enough, but if there’s one thing we’re sure of, it’s that Anbernic seemingly nailed most of the design. Both handhelds pair a glass front with a plastic back, while also sporting the little indents on either end for your fingers to rest.

Even the D-pad looks similar to the one found on the PS Vita. If there’s one thing to gripe about, it’s that we would’ve liked to see Anbernic switch up the ABXY button design to better match the Vita. Now, we just have to play the waiting game, which is always so much fun.

    • The base model is less powerful than the retroid pocket 5 but the vita pro with the dimensity 8300 is substantially better than the SD865 in the retroid pocket 5.

This is why I love Anbernic so much! This company constantly brings great handhelds to our community. At the beginning of the year, I often think about what Anbernic will create next. This is the norm for this company. I heap praise on this company because they are always clear about showing you the handheld, then shortly after they open up the buying options, and approximately 2 to 3 weeks later, your handheld will be on the way. This is why I buy every handheld that Anbernic offers. Keep up the great work, Anbernic, you all are well-loved and appreciated in the United States of America!

no im from america and ambernic you are not. their os and ui are horrific their prices vs quality are mid at best and lets face it if you were going to pay the same price for a ps vita emulator that likly cant even handle most ps1 games and if so rather laggy vs the actule ps vita, you would just buy the ps vita. now I see what ambernics trying to do here but at this price justpay a tiny bit more for the real thing.
