The writing has been on the wall for quite some time, but the entry-level Steam Deck LCD is no longer available for purchase. This was spotted earlier, and was confirmed as a note has been added below the Steam Deck comparison. It reads as follows:

Note: We are no longer producing the Steam Deck LCD 256GB model. Once sold out, it will no longer be available.

This obviously suggests that the note has actually been shown on the Steam Deck landing page for some amount of time, but was only recently noticed. Moving forward, Valve is only selling two Steam Deck variants, both OLED models, with the option for either 512GB or 1TB of storage.

Some might rush to judgement, thinking that this means the Steam Deck 2 is on the way, but that’s highly unlikely. Just weeks ago, Valve introduced brand new hardware with the Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and Steam Controller. It wouldn’t make much sense to release a new iteration of its most popular hardware all on its own, then again, we’ve seen crazier things happen.

More than likely, Valve is just clearing out some space in its warehouses to make room for the new hardware slated to release sometime in 2026. Leading up to now, the Steam Deck LCD was on sale for about $320 on Black Friday, before the price returned to $399. Surprisingly enough, the Steam Winter Sale kicked off this week, but Valve opted against doing a fire sale to quickly clear out inventory.

Instead, Valve went for a swift, yet silent ending. RIP Steam Deck, you revolutionized the space and left it in a much better place than when you arrived.
