ScummVM just dropped version 2026.1.0, and the devs are calling it possibly their biggest release ever in terms of new features and engines. For anyone sitting on a backlog of Sierra Interactive games, this update is basically Christmas.
The star of the show is support for a dozen new engines, which translates into roughly 194 newly playable titles off the bat, thanks to just two of them alone. The list is bonkers: you’ve got horror oddities like Dark Seed, Dynamix adventures like The Adventures of Willy Beamish and Heart of China, and a chunk of Nancy Drew with Secret of the Scarlet Hand and Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake. It keeps going with stuff like Ripley’s Believe It or Not!: The Riddle of Master Lu, Another World, and Tex Murphy: Martian Memorandum joining the party.
Then there’s the deep(er)-cut territory. SLUDGE-based games, WAGE-based games, and a grab bag of Euro/edu titles like Adibou 2: Nature & Sciences. The hotly-awaited Russian scene gets some love too, with Little Longnose, multiple Pilot Brothers titles, Features of National Fishing, Mom Don’t Worry, and the extremely well-named titles, Dog-n-cat: In the Footsteps of Unprecedented Beasts and Dog-n-cat: Island of Dr Ratiarty.
Of course, this isn’t just a content dump. The Keymapper and Text-to-Speech systems got major upgrades, making it easier to tailor controls and accessibility across platforms. There are now optional SDL3 builds, scaling shaders for 3D games, plus notable improvements to Android and iOS ports. Overall, ScummVM 2026.1.0 represents a substantial and carefully considered step forward for the project.
