Did you pre-order the Retroid Pocket 6 in hopes that it would arrive sometime in January? Well, if you were among the first to get your order in, then there’s a good chance there’s nothing to worry about. However, the same can’t be said for everyone else, as Retroid announced delays for its upcoming flagship Android handheld.

This week, an announcement was made over on the official Retroid Discord server, providing an explanation as to why the Pocket 6 is being delayed. According to the message, there are “efficiency limitations in the RP6 OLED screen calibration/demura process.” So as a result, “around 100+ units of the black (Joystick on top)” were shipped in the first batch.

After discovering the issue with its supply of display panels, Retroid says it bought a new calibration system that “allows up to 12 pcs OLED panels to be calibrated and OTP programmed at a time.” Provided that it doesn’t run into any problems, the company says that “mass shipments of the RP6 will begin on Wednesday,” (January 28).

In the post, the message goes on to explain that the Pocket 6 in Black will be the first to ship, regardless of what joystick/D-pad configuration was selected. It also plans to begin updating the Delivery Dashboard once more devices are actually assembled and ready to ship.

We applaud Retroid for being so transparent about the entire situation, especially seeing as the Pocket 6 was originally expected to arrive this month. However, with these delays, paired with Chinese New Year around the corner, don’t be surprised if your Retroid Pocket 6 doesn’t show up at the end of February.

Speaking of which, if you’re interested in picking up the Pocket 6, it’s probably best to get your order in sooner rather than later. Retroid is already into its “Second Batch” of pre-orders, which isn’t scheduled to begin shipping until “the beginning of March.”
