Retroid has announced that its upcoming Dual Screen Add-on does not work with the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro due to its MediaTek chipset.
The announcement comes a few days after Retroid had already begun shipping its Dual Screen Add-on to those who preordered one back in early June. The device, at the time, was said to support the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro, Retroid Pocket 5, and Retroid Pocket Mini.
No More Dual Screen 4 Pro
The company today has shared that the device will not work with the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro due to its MediaTek chipset, causing issues with the add-on’s internal PCB. Due to this, the company will be sending refunds to those who ordered a Pocket 4 Pro and Dual Screen Add-on without purchasing a Retroid Pocket 5 or Mini directly from Retroid.
The Add-on will release with a free OTA update when it arrives to customers. The update will address concerns brought up in multiple reviews of the accessory that mentioned noticeable latency being present throughout gameplay. Last week, the company dedicated time and research and development to sourcing and fixing the issue. They now claim that the add-on latency issue has been fixed, but many customers have yet to receive their device to verify.
Retroid launches have been considerably rocky for their past few device launches. The Flip 2 suffered from hinge-related issues, the Classic came during massive tariff changes and saw most of its colorways delayed, and the Mini had a long-winded screen saga that eventually led to a revision of the console taking its place.
Refunds, Getcha Refunds
With this newest announcement, upcoming handheld devices may become more appealing to those who were planning to use the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro to emulate Dual Screen devices. The AYN Thor is currently available for preorder, and the AYANEO Pocket DS both feature dual screens and offer some vast benefits over the currently available Retroid selections. For instance, the AYN Thor has a 6-inch OLED screen with a 144hz refresh rate, whereas the Retroid Pocket 5 and Flip 2 feature a 5.5-inch screen with a 60hz refresh rate.
Retroid does continue to innovate in their products and seemingly addresses the concerns its customer base raises with the company. All of the aforementioned issues were addressed by the company in one way or another in order to do right by their customer base. With this latest development, the company still aims to try and resolve the issue, but for now, they’re treating it as unfixable and issuing refunds.
