Mole Mania, a moderately obscure Game Boy classic, has received a full-color fan remaster! This cult classic, made by legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto, is playable in color for the first time since its original 1996 release!
Originally released on the Game Boy, Mole Mania follows Muddy Mole as he traverses seven worlds to rescue his wife and seven children from the dastardly farmer, Jinbe. Gameplay is a blend of action and puzzle elements that requires Muddy Mole to traverse levels that necessitate digging, pushing, and pulling obstacles to destroy enemies or figure out environmental puzzles.
Now, the game’s devoted fanbase has brought Mole Mania into the world of color with Mole Mania DX; a passion project by coder Marc Max and artist Kensu William.
While the game was re-released on the 3DS Virtual Console, it has otherwise never seen any re-release or remaster. Mole Mania DX provides not just another way to play Miyamoto’s hidden gem, but perhaps the definitive way.
The remaster is a simple patch file that can be applied to your legally obtained ROM of the game right on the project’s official site. Proper patching should allow Mole Mania DX to be played on actual Game Boy Color hardware, as well as your favorite retro handheld.
Mole Mania DX offers a fantastic new way to experience this overlooked classic, transforming Muddy Mole’s adventure with vibrant, full-color visuals for the very first time. This fan-driven remaster not only breathes new life into a hidden gem but also solidifies its place as perhaps the definitive way to play Miyamoto’s imaginative puzzle game.
